Jack Burchfield, K4JU

Mostly From Douglas T. Smith Editorial Services

Ten-Tec President Jack Burchfield was educated in electrical engineering at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and holds an MSEE. He joined the E-V team and was key in the development of some innovative products, many of which are still favorites among audio professionals. In 1968 he co-founded Ten-Tec with Al Kahn, K4FW. At Ten-Tec, he has led the way in the design and production of radio communications gear for amateur, commercial and government services alike. His groundbreaking work is found in some hugely popular rigs such as the Argonaut series, the Scout, the Omni series, the Orion and many others. Mr. Burchfield is an avid CW fan and is quite active both from his home in Knoxville and from his mobile station. That is part of the reason Ten-Tec rigs have always had the best CW performance of any transceiver available, bar none.

Jack also organizes and maintains Ten-Tec's tool-and-die and plastic injection-molding operations. In a 40,000 square-foot facility, the latest in numerically controlled metalworking technology is employed to provide clients with fast and efficient design and production services.

Jack was elected to the CQ Amateur Radio Hall of Fame in 2004.
