JT-11 AUTOTUNER FAQ

 

Q. What is the JT-11 tuner?

A. The JT-11 is an offshoot of LDG Electronics' popular AT-11MP automatic antenna tuner. LDG and Ten-Tec have worked together to create an internally installable version of this tuner for the Jupiter transceiver.

Q. Is this tuner like the PT-11 that can be installed in the Pegasus?

A. Yes. It's the same tuner board with a couple of small modifications that are needed to make it installable in the Jupiter. The performance level is the same as the PT-11 and the AT-11MP.

Q. Is it like the autotuners found in Japanese HF transceiver?

A. No. This is an important one. The autotuner found in a typical Japanese HF transceiver is merely a load trimmer that can't tolerate a starting SWR of more than 2:1 to begin with (25-100 ohm load). The internal Jupiter tuner has a matching range of up to 10:1 SWR (6-800 ohm load). This is significantly better performance than the autotuners found in the Japanese transceivers.

Q. Can I call up and order a new Jupiter with the tuner board installed now?

A. Yes -we have the Jupiter available with the JT-11 tuner installed. The part number is 538AT and the transceiver with autotuner sells for $1488.00 ($1189+$299 for the tuner).

Q. I have a Jupiter that I want to send in to have the tuner added. What do I do?

A. Call the sales department at (800) 833-7373 or email them at sales@tentec.com. We will take your order on Visa, MasterCard, or Discover and assign you a place in line. No charge will be made to your credit card until your rig comes in to have the tuner installed. We will call you when we're ready for you to send the rig to us for the tuner upgrade. At the time of this writing (October 23, 2001) we expect to start installing tuners in existing units approximately December 15, 2001. This is subject to change depending upon parts availability and demand.

Q. I don't want to send the Jupiter in - I can install the kit myself. Are you taking orders
for the kits?

A. Yes - we're taking kit orders now. No charge will be made to your credit card until we ship the kit. We expect to be delivering kits in February 2002.

Q. After I get the radio back from having the tuner installed by Ten-Tec, will I need to download a file off of the Internet to get the latest version of the Jupiter and make the tuner operable?

A. No - we will install the latest update while it is here. An instruction sheet to place in your Jupiter owners' manual will be included regarding tuner operation.

Q. If I install the kit myself, will I have to download an update from the Internet?

A. Yes - the latest firmware to enable the tuner will be posted to our web site.

Q. What's the warranty?

A. LDG warranties the tuner for 1 year parts and labor.
