Accessing Your Omni VII When You Have a Dynamic IP Address

From the Ten-Tec Reflector June 10, 2007

I have a dynamic IP through my cable company. I set up an account with www.dyndns.org. They provide free software that runs on a PC on your LAN that updates your current IP on the WAN side of your network to their servers. Most home routers also have the functionality to update your IP with them. You then have use a web address to access your Omni VII such as k4fds.dyndns.org instead of needing to know your current WAN IP address. The One Plug software takes care of the UDP connection and the port fowarding in your router gets the data to and from the Omni VII. Beats having to know what the IP address of the internet connection the Omni VII resides on.
