To remove the knobs, gently pry the chrome (or black) trim rings off with your fingernails. Then you will see small setscrews. Loosening these setscrews lets you remove the knob. Unless the setscrews are loose, you can't easily remove the knobs by pulling on them.

(N1EU note: I didn't "pry" them off - I pulled them off using both hands, grasping the trim ring between thumb and index finger of both hands; use .050 allen wrench for the setscrews)
