====== Setting the Receiver Address Code for Computer Control of the Delta II ======

The Delta II is now being controlled by my computer.  After two telephone conversations with Paul Clinton at Ten-Tec, he finally was able to get through to me what I should do and how to interpret and use what I was seeing.

First, the problem seemed to be that the "receiver address code" the contest software (TRLog) was looking for was not the default
'4', like in the Omni VI+.

Second, nothing in the Delta manual or the 305 manual indicated what to punch on the keypad to display and allow changes to the
receiver address code.

The keystrokes are F + <Mode to display the receiver address code.  It should show something like EC OO.  When you press the ^ (up) arrow on the keypad, that should cause to be displayed two more digits (0.0).  The n.n digit is the receiver address code. Press the up arrow to increment it to the value you want (I incremented it to 0.4).  Press ENTER to save it.

Then, in the contest software (in TRLog's case), I entered "radio one address = 4" in logcfg.dat and saved it.  I activated TRLog
and the program then recognized and took control of the radio.

I have a Delta II which I purchased to use as radio2 for
contestng.

I purchased the Model 305 for the RS232 level conversion that is
necessary for computer control of the Delta II.  You could just
as well build your own.  My 1995 ARRL Handbook for Radio Amateurs
has the schematic and writeup on an RS232 level converter using
the same chip as the 305.

The baud rate is fixed at 1200 baud.

You may very likely need to know the 'receiver address'.  Mine is
64.  You can find and set your's by pressing the "F" button, the
<MODE button (That's the LEFT ARROW-MODE button).  On the LCD
display you will see HEX numbers (mine says EC.006.4) in place of
the frequency.  The 6.4 is the 64 receiver address for my radio.
You can change the number by pressing the Up or Down arrow
buttons.  (I'm telling you this in detail because I had to call
Ten-Tec service department to find out how to do this; it wasn't
in the manual.).

I found a problem with the computer/radio system that I am trying
to work through.  The computer software polls the radio for the
frequency once a second.  I have had to turn off the polling
while the radio is transmitting, otherwise the CW characters get
all chopped up and are unreadable.  With the polling off while
transmitting, only the first character is chopped (truncated?),
the rest of the CW is normal CW.  There are a couple of other
software commands I found in the logging program command list
that I am going to try this weekend and see if that will resolve
the first character chopping problem.

My radio1 is an Omni VI+ and I've had no similar problems with
it's computer control (same computer and same software).  So, I
don't know if the problems I am having with the Delta II are
endemic to the radio or if it's just a problem with my radio.
