Omni VII Model 588 Boot Up Keys and Operational Modes

From the Ten-Tec Omni VII Yahoo! Group - 12/11/2007

At present.
When you switch on the OMNI-VII, you can direct what it is going to do, how it is going to run. Meaning you can boot it up in "Remote" mode, "Radio" mode, or into "Boot Loader" mode, or force a master reset. Note: "Remote" and "Radio" are what are referred to as Operational Modes.

Pressing and holding the following keys performs the following functions: (release when the given version number is shown)

  1. Digit Entry "1" digit forces the OMNI-VII into Radio Mode. (subsequent power cycles will also force the OMNI-VII into radio mode)
  2. Digit Entry "2" digit forces the OMNI-VII into Remote Mode. (subsequent power cycles will also force the OMNI-VII into remote mode)
  3. "MNU" will force the OMNI-VII into the same operating mode it was in last (1..6), and perform a Master Reset.
  4. Digit Entry "0" digit forces the OMNI-VII into the Boot Loader Mode. NOTE: Subsequent power cycles will return the OMNI-VII into the last run operational mode (1..6)
  5. Digit Entry "3..6" are available for future complete operation modes. So at the moment, the Boot Loader will stay in Boot Loader mode and identify that the requested code isn't programmed yet. Turn the rig off and back on and it will return to the previous valid Operational Mode.

At the moment, any other key press will also force the radio to remain in Boot Loader Mode. But these keys can take on meanings later. So, please stick with using the "0" digit for now, otherwise if their function changes in the future, and if you don't read the update list completely, or don't catch the additional feature provided in the manual, then you may be surprised at what you will see. For example, "3" now has an identified use, and won't be disclosed until a future release.
