565 Advantages Over the 566

1. The 565 provides stereo line out connections on the Aux I/O connector where the 566 only has a single line out

2. On very strong s9++ signals where the hardware AGC kicks in, the 565 receiver stays clean but the 566 receiver is prone to occasional distortion. This has been verified on four out of four 566's tested, which spanned the entire production history.

3. Some consider the receive audio quality slightly smoother on the 565, but the difference is subtle.

566 Advantages Over the 565

1. Color display is MUCH more attractive than the 565 monochrome display, which loses contrast as it ages and may need to be replaced

2. Ten-Tec used superior connectors on the 566 encoder signals, which is a known problem area in the 565

3. The 566 offers 600hz and 300hz optional filters without an extra preamp stage. The 565 work-around is to use the Inrad #762 600hz filter in the 1000hz filter slot.

4. The 566 uses a faster CPU, but it's not that noticeable during use.

Generally speaking, the 565 and 566 performance is identical.
